Im sure alot of u are as tired of the whole rat race process.... what am i to do... i read the newspaper inside out... try and gather all the information from my various sites being business standard, rediff and Mba preparatory site Testfunda.com..... today i was so exhausted that i called up alot of institutions mainly coaching classes to assist me on which college to choose after my CET GD PI rounds....
All these institutes had their counselors on the phone explaining what college could pick... but there is something id like to add...
While talking to one of these really depressing counselor i thought to myself maybe if I tried calling testfunda they would also give me some insight in the matter... I had taken their tests and studied from my friends testfunda notes and had found them to be nice and crisp....
so there i was calling testfunda.. someone answered there helpline no. and for a change my call wasnt transferred to ''THE CONCERNED PERSON''.... I must have sounded all tensed so the first thing that the lady on the call did was calmed me down.... she explained to me that though the scene was tough but there was still hope.... not only was i told what colleges i could get a call from but also i was told what all i could do just incase i dint make it.... it was a warm feeling which made me feel protected....
Im back to my warrior self.... ready to face the whole process again....
Ive already mailed testfunda a thank u note.... just wanted to tell all my readers....God really showed me light!!!

Second rung b-schools struggling on placements: Research
B-schools across the country may be boasting of top class infrastructure and strong industry-academia interface but most of the Tier-II B-schools are struggling on the placements front and manage to achieve placements for only 20-40 per cent of their students.
Besides, the final placement process at these B-schools bags jobs for most of the students in insurance and sales and that too in the salary range of Rs 12000-22000 per month.
The lacklustre performance of these B-schools on the placements front is due to lack of practical sales training, says a research by Little Extra, a Kolkata-based sales training and research institute.
The research was conducted across 60 MBA institutes across the country with the owners, directors, training placement officers and faculty members of these institutes involved in the survey.
The survey also covered the HR heads and chief executive officers of 40 companies across sectors and 800 MBA students.
According to the survey, more than 80 per cent of the students are offered sales jobs but these students are not trained on sales concepts and its applications as the syllabus lacks practical sales training.
The survey states that the MBA/BBA syllabus of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and Fakir Mohan University, both based out of Orissa and some other MBA institutes do not have practical oriented training.
As per a report by leading global consultancy firm Gartner, various companies spent Rs 1500 crore on sales training for their employees in 2008-09. Though there are many sales trainers for the employers, there are not enough for the management institutes.
To ensure successful sales training at the B-schools, the faculty members must have worked at the managerial level and trained subordinates in sales function.
Sales is about how you talk to your prospect, how you present yourself and not just mention the facts about your product. To sell you need to have confidence in yourself, present your solution enthusiastically”, said Subrato Samddar, director, Little Extra.
Since sales is not just about selling, the research by Little Extra has suggested a two-pronged action- practical sales module and faculties with sales exposure.
Besides, the research has stressed on targeted, customized and holistic employability training focusing on Attitude or Emotional Intelligence (EI). Research says that EI can contribute to 90 per cent of success in life whereas IQ (Intelligence Quotient) contributes only 25 per cent.
The study reports that placements require a combination of corporate interaction through guest lectures and Management Development Programmes as well as employability training but most of the B-schools are deficient in these two aspects.
Apart from placements, the other area of concern is the inability of the second and third rung B-schools to fill up their capacity despite investing Rs 6-15 crore on college infrastructure and start-up costs.
Consequently, these institutes start admitting almost every one who applies, starting a vicious cycle of poor input, leading to poor placements.
The top 50 B-schools in India select just about three per cent of the total aspirants compared to management institutes of international repute like Harvard and Stanford which have a selection rate of 10 per cent.
The inability to attract good students, Samaddar feels is because of the failure to follow the basic rules of marketing like creating a niche brand equity and leveraging word of mouth publicity.
There are more than 1900 B-schools across the country producing over 95,000 management graduates annually.
Little Extra's research suggests that quality dips significantly beyond the top 50 B-schools in all key parameters like student input in communication skills, teaching quality, corporate interaction and final placements.

Sibal: India will have world's most educated people by 2030
Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal has said that India will have the most educated people by 2030, thereby stressing on the use of technology to spread education to dispossessed areas of the country.
Sibal said the government is giving weightage to the use of information communication and technology (ICT) to increase access to education among people residing in rural and geographically disadvantageous places.
Technology is going to play a major role in the education sector in the 21st century, said Sibal, adding that the government has put in place an ICT mission.
He has asked states, civil society, parents and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to move in the right direction.
Sibal also proposed the idea of providing mobile phones to teachers to check the problem of absenteeism, saying that mobile phones will specify the exact place where the teacher is positioned at any given point of time.

KOLKATA: A good percentile in CAT 2009 and an impressive performance in group discussion and personal interview may not be enough to get you into the IIMs as they have added a new criteria from this year: Your scores in matriculation, higher secondary and graduation.
For instance, IIM-Calcutta is taking into account work experience and grades in these three examinations while screening candidates for GD and interview for selection to the postgraduate diploma in computer management course.
"Out of 100 marks, 75 have been allotted to the CAT score, 10 each for Class X and HS scores, and the remaining five marks for work experience," said an IIM-C official. Candidates scoring 95% in Class X and HS will get the full 10 marks, while those getting over 90% eight marks each. Those getting 85-90% will get six marks, 80-85% four marks.
For instance, IIM-Calcutta is taking into account work experience and grades in these three examinations while screening candidates for GD and interview for selection to the postgraduate diploma in computer management course.

MHCET and my experience....
I pleaded for a new OMR sheet but of course in vain
... almost after 15minutes I get my question sheet... and voila the clock starts to tick..Ive got set 333 so all my DI are last. I dint solve the bodmas and quant... I marked all of these as option 3. Tukkas like all say...hope i do well.... im making it a habit to read articles which are focused on business issues because gives u the hang of reading boring passages with ease... now some of u may feel that these arent boring but ask some like me we hate reading such articles... infact i never read the economic times i only read the mirror or Times....
According to him, the trend for low cost computing and networking devices is slated to continue, which companies like HP and Dell cannot reconcile to. He claims the US computer makers have no concept of low-cost manufacturing strategies and will lose out in the long run. However, not all are quick to agree with this point of view.
Experts say that possibly the words hold true for traditional PCs and laptops, but will the world continue to store data on local drives and need to carry a laptop around? Cloud computing, virtualization, remote data processing, remote storage through net-based servers, these and many more technologies could change the face of the technology world as we know it, claims David Carini, MD of Maverick China Research. With these technologies, US companies could evolve into something totally different, he argues.
According to industry watchers, Dell and HP should focus on making cooler, funkier PCs rather than try to bring down costs, as they are currently trying to do. Instead they need to adopt strategies like Sony’s Viao range or those of Apple, to make their presence felt in the market. A shift in strategy to manufacture not only PCs but also related technology devices, like Apple has done, could also yield rich dividends, says Jessica Lo of China Market Research Group. She adds that consumers are willing to pay a premium where they see value as in the case of Apple’s iPod and
At the same time, selling on the low cost principle alone will not work for long. Costs, especially infrastructure and labor, have a tendency to rise over time as a particular destination becomes popular, as seen in the case of the BPO industry in India. Sooner or later, someone will find a cheaper way to do it, or change the face of the industry altogether. Then the low-cost manufacturers of today will be in the same position as the competitors they are pointing fingers at. After all, Dell was once known for its low-cost setup for assembling and shipping PCs in the US.

MHCET and its preparation...
Now most of the exams are done with and my last attempt is the Maharashtra CET.... ive prepared for it... and im using notes and tests from testfunda.com.....these are quite a good set of notes and tests and the counselors are really helpful.... they such kool facilities they answer the doubts within 24 hours and its really explanatory... i dint have to travel in the heat to go to any classes instead i studied on my own.... i got these notes a month before the test and it is really helping as it is a concentrated approach... i am now waiting for the test and hope it gets done with soon....

ATMA.... the ghost of the exam...
ATMA is an exam approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India for admission on All India Basis to the MBA / PGDM and other Postgraduate Programmes like MCA..
the exam was conducted on the 14th of Feb so the sight outside the centre in Mumbai.... most of the girls had their hands full of flowers or chocolates or teddies.. ya i dont believe ppl so much importance to valentines day.... no one bothered about the exam to come....
that was not the only scene... apparently alot of students forget to bring the their payment recipts which we had to carry with us....so another round of confusion had started....somehow they were allowed to take the test by taking the invigilators' signture on the admit cards....
the paper was really simple with enough time... all sections were given separately and one wasn't allowed to do another set in the assigned time... all sections were easy... i hope all u guys clear the test with flying colours...

FMS FLIES!!!
My FMS experience was a decent one... i had my friend in the same classroom as me so i was a lil ok ...the test went off smoothly except for the invigilator who thought everyone was trying to copy from their friends on the right...
And about the paper: This year’s FMS consisted of 200 questions, compared to last year’s 175. The marking scheme was +4 for correct answers and -1 for negative answers. Thus, the total marks was 800.
The four sections were:
• Section 1: Reading Comprehension
• Section 2: Logical Reasoning
• Section 3: Verbal Ability
• Section 4: Quantitative Ability
Honestly i had prepared well for these sections. and i must say that the hard work payed( ill keep mum till the results)
im glad i went for that movie it helped me relax and write the paper....
what comes next is the NMAT... but now i need some sleep!!!

3 IDIOTS
Now that all the exams are sooo close i really need to study....im sitting on my study table and the phone rings...its a friend of mine we chat and talk bout studies and then she says how about a movie today???
n im like huh??!?!? are u nuts NNNOOO...n she is like we have studied all year for these exams 3 hours will not make a difference.... HELLL NOOO are u nuts is my reaction....she tries all sorts of dramatic attyachar and finally i squeak yes....
within 5mins she was under my house and no sooner had we left i found myself comfortabily placed in a chair digging my hand into a tub of popcorn.......the movie started off and for those three hours i had forgotten that in the next 48 hours id be done wid a paper which i am really looking forward to...
i was soo guilty that i had wasted my time but hey the movie wasnt disappointing and that saved it for me!!!

FMS mock tests
I had already taken mocks for the FMS test but im still not confident about my test preparation...
i need to do something more to give me that edge ahead... studying now is of no use... i have to concentrate on taking only tests and concentrate on areas in which im making mistakes..
my tests i took from a friend are done with ive taken 1 test from testfunda.com too...
i needed more tests so i took another one from testfunda.com...
my performance reports are showing a better scene in this particular test...i am confident but still need more tests to take as my test is 3 days from today and im going to be studying till day after midnight only...

Math games...
Im so excited t ohave found this new game where in i can play and practise my maths... quants has always been my weak area and i have found new innovative ways to concentrate and work on the math secction...
I really like the quizzes and now im addicted to the games i found on the site...
its called number tetris its a really cool game where one can play and sharpen their mathematical skills...there are various rounds which concentrate on multiplication division... and u need to be fast else u will loose...
Im so glad i found these games on testfunda.com coz now i look at all these numbers and i dont get scared... earlier the more no.s i saw the more scared id get of the sum and end up making stupid silly mistakes..

Christmas in Mumbai...
Chirstmas in Mumbai is a wonderful feeling... its pure bliss..today i went all over Mumbai to see what all was happening... marine drive had all its five stars decorated where as every corner in bandra projected the Christmas spirit... all the churches were soo prettily done up.....
me and my friends went to a church and then over to friends house for some cake...
in the middle of so much fun a friend just randomly said next month around the same time we will have our FMS exam.... that jus ruined it for me...
i was havin a good time and then came this whole gush of guilt fear and tension....
im going to start studying from tomorrow...

The CAT aftermath!!!
Ok CAT has passed and all i need is a vacation..... life is good now...but wont call it great..
tomorrow i start with FMS preparation...
not looking forward to it though...

Corporate love letter
now that the CAT is done with im kinda bored i came across this article on testfunda.com n boy its soo stupidly funny...

In today's world of MBA's, the old fashioned Love-Letter is being replaced by such 'Corporate' Love-Letters, go ahead and read on.
Dearest Ms. _____,
I am very happy to inform you that I have fallen in love with you. Since the 25th of December 2008. With reference to the meeting held between us on the 24 th of December 2008 at 1500 hrs, I would like to present myself as a prospective lover.
Our love affair would be on probation for a period of three months and depending on compatibility, would be made permanent. Of course, upon completion of probation, there will be continuous on the job training and performance appraisal schemes leading up to from lover to spouse. The expenses incurred for coffee and entertainment would initially be shared equally between us. Later, based on your performance, I might take up a larger share of the expenses.

CAT 2009 arrives!
Okay here i am this is me there is no where on earth i can be here i am just cat n me....lalalllllaaaa...
the exam is here im losing my mind went back to my guide... google here i come.... and i found this article which really helped me.... im personally taking my CAT on the 6th of Dec...
Tutorial (optional): Duration - 15 minutes.
We suggest, you should go through the tutorial once, even if you have seen it before.
Test Duration:
The actual duration of the test is 2 hours and 15 minutes.
Sections covered:
Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning; not necessarily in that order.
Test Format and pattern:
Reports suggest a total of 60 questions with 20 from each section. The pattern is similar to previous CAT papers.
Negative Marking:
Though not mentioned on the day of the exam, the IIM DEMO player does state that “Wrong answer carries negative point. Therefore it is to your advantage to answer every question correctly. If you are unsure of your answer, you can MARK the question for review if time permits”
However, the marks per question & the actual negative marking is not known hence it is futile to speculate about the cut-offs.
Highlighting Text:
You can highlight text in group questions like RCs. You can make multiple highlights in a particular screen, which gets deleted once you switch to the next screen.
Reviewing Questions:
You can mark a question to come back to it later. You can then Review either all the questions or review only the marked questions or review only the incomplete questions. The review shows a list of all the questions, but it will not directly give you a count of the questions attempted or to be attempted. You will need to manually count the number of questions for such data.
Items provided for rough work:
Pencils, eraser and a paper booklet of 4 A4 size papers will be provided. You will not be allowed to take your own stationary into the computer lab. In case of broken or blunt pencil points, your pencil will be replaced immediately.
Ending the test:
If you click the END button at the bottom of the screen, you are immediately logged out of the test. There is no popup box asking you whether you are sure about quitting the test. This button is very close to the NEXT button. Hence, while giving the test DO NOT click on the End button at any point of time.
Timer:
The timer is present on the screen at all time and shows the time remaining till the end of the test. Wrist watches are not allowed into the computer lab. At the end of the test, when your time runs out, you will be automatically logged out of the test and a screen with “You have run out of time” text will be visible.

- Prometric has extended the deadline for editing details till Dec 11.
- Biometrics Testing includes your photo being taken by a PC camera and an electronic finger printing (left and right hand index finger 3-3 times).
- Voucher Admit card printout and Photo ID are required to give the test. If you have lost either, call on the Prometric helpline immediately. Voucher number is required to login. The confirmation email need not be printed in the admit card. Only the admit card summary is important.
- Having different addresses in the admit card and in the photo-id won’t deter you from giving the test. To be on the safe side, if such a case rises, take your electricity or telephone bill with you.
- You do not require the Prometric username and password to give the test.
- The password required to login to the test will be given by Prometric volunteers at the start of the test.
- For doing rough work, pencil, eraser and a booklet having 4 A4 sizes papers (8 sides) are provided. No sharpners are provided. They just change your pencils.
- Skipping the 15 minutes tutorial won’t grant extra time for the test. It is advisable to go through the tutorial anyway.
- System is user-friendly.
- Changing resolution of the screen (zooming) is not possible.
- Exiting the test software or opening another application like Notepad of MS Word is not possible.
- Cntrl + F is disabled. So finding a word in RC using the same is not possible.
- Duration of the test won’t keep one down.
- Negative marking exists.
- You can start from any section of your choice.
- To clear the clicked option, re-click on the same to deselect the option.
- The END button is very close to the NEXT button. Be extra careful. You don’t want to ruin a year.
- We can jump between questions by using the Review feature (as shown in the CAT demo Player)
- Highlighting multiple lines in an RC section is possible. However, the selection is lost if we move away from the section.
- Time left is displayed on screen. Timer logs you out automatically at the end of the test.
- You wouldn’t get a score-sheet immediately after the exam is over. The results will be announced on 22-Jan-2010
- Make sure to file an official complaint with the Prometric ‘proctors’ if you find issues with the technology (any technical glitches) while giving the test.
- As marking system is unknown, the only strategy in hand is to attempt as many questions as possible without compromising on accuracy.
- Students claim that the level of difficulty of CAT was not as high as expected. Hence attempting more questions correctly will give you an edge.
- Reports say that attempting 45+ questions (spread out equally across the three sections) with a 80-85+ accuracy seems to be a good bet.
- It is recommended that a break up of 40 minutes for Verbal, 45 minutes for Quant and 50 minutes for DI LR is optimum.
- Students expecting higher scores suggest that 13-15 Qs in VA, 11-13 in QA and 10-12 in DI would help you get a good score.
